In the 1930s, the Florida Keys became known as the mecca for sportsfisherman all over the world. Small fishing camps sprang up across the Keys to accomodate these groups of fishermen, who wanted comfortable sleeping quarters, great food, strong drinks, and outstanding fishing.
The fisherman, guided by locals, breakfasted, fished in the morning, then came back to shore for a hearty lunch and rest before returning to fishing in the afternoon. In the evening, they enjoyed another hearty meal, hopefully their catch of the day, followed by beers, cigars, and tales from the day's adventure.
The historic Conch structure that houses Ballyhoos today was one of the buildings from an early fishing camp. Enjoy the wood beam ceilings and quaint atmosphere while enjoying on the best seafood, steaks, and sandwhiches that the Florida Keys has to offer. Ballyhoos' menu has evovled from traditional Conch favorites, to Florida comfort food, to new and exciting chef-crafted specialties.
And listen closely, because you may overhear some great fishing tales while you're here.
